Radio KAOM: The Piano Guys w/ Sir Cliff Richard "It's Gonna Be Okay"

INSPIRING HOPE

The Piano Guys
w/ Sir Cliff Richard
"It's Gonna Be Okay"

Story behind the song:

"We've all had that phone call. That email or that message. That conversation. Bad news. We're all struggling with something – a debilitating weakness or illness. Or someone we love is barely holding on. We watch the news. We see the tweets, the Facebook posts...the YouTube comments! We hear about hate, terror, and despair. But just because what sells, what goes "viral," or what gets attention may try to drown out the good in the world, it doesn't mean that goodness is gone. Just because choruses of controversy and scandal shout louder than quiet symphonies of service, it doesn't change the fact that, inside, most of us still genuinely want happiness -- not only for ourselves, but also for our family, our friends, and our fellow human beings.

Media can make the world look bleak. They've given themselves this job description, in part because there's a darker side on the surface of human nature that feeds on fear and cynicism. But deep down, we are beings of light. And in the end, since darkness is merely the absence of light, light will inevitably overcome dark.

This is the essence of hope. And the essence of this song. "No matter what you've been through, no matter if you think you're falling apart, it's gonna be okay."

Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But we believe that someday, somehow, all things will be made right. And as the Psalm says, "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."

In the meantime, there are so many more things to hope for and to work at while we yearn for the outcome we want so badly – more gratitude for what we have, more love for those we've taken for granted, more faith in ourselves and those we hold dear, and more confidence in a Divine purpose.

We felt like the best way to spread the message of this song was to supplement our standard classically-influenced instrumental niche with a more pop-driven tune featuring Al's superb vocal skills.

As Oscar Hammerstein once said, "It is a modern tragedy that despair has so many spokesmen, and hope so few." Please share this song with someone you think might need it today. Thank you!" (ThePianoGuys YouTube)

Radio KAOM: Beethoven Piano Concerto No 5 "Emperor" Movement One

 GLORIOUS GORGEOSITY
My favorite conductor
My favorite pianist

Ludwig van Beethoven
Piano Concerto No 5 "Emperor"
Movement I: Allegro
Leonard Bernstein
Pianist : Krystian Zimerman.
Orchestra : Vienna Philharmonic

This video is of the entire piano concerto
Today I wanted us to only listen to the 1st movement
It ends at the 21:25 minute mark
Under NO CirCUMstances
ARe you to listen to the rest of this concerto today
You will be punished if you do
I will spank you
: )
Naw - if you have time I recommend listening to all of it
But I really wanted you to truly listen to the first movement today
I think I will play the 2nd movement tomorrow

Just sit back and listen in amazement
As Krystian Zimerman's divine hands flow over the keyboard
As Leonard Bernstein's divine heart conducts the Vienna
This is Beethoven at his best (In my humble opinion)

So many moments of beauty in this piece
I especially love the Piano and French Horn at the 19:12

"Beethoven began composing his ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto in 1809, while Vienna was under invasion from Napoleon’s forces for the second time. Napoleon's bombardment and occupation of Vienna caused Beethoven a great deal of anxiety and anger in the midst of all the turmoil.

Beethoven wrote at the time, “The whole course of events has affected my body and soul,” he wrote. “What a disturbing, wild life around me; nothing but drums, cannons, men, misery of all sorts.”

Beethoven began his work on this piece in 1808, about the time that he completed his fifth and sixth symphonies and fourth piano concerto. Despite difficult living conditions the composer finished it promptly."

"This piece is originally written by Paul de Senneville and performed by Richard Clayderman. The piece was rearranged by pianist George Davidson and it is his version I perform here. This version is also incorrectly known as "Chopin's Spring Waltz". I believe this is caused by a popular, but wrong titled, video here on youtube."

Into and through the piano
Through our ears and into our hearts

Evgeny Kissin
"La Campanella"
by
Franz Liszt
based on
Niccolò Paganini
The Royal Albert Hall, London, August 1997
You can see the entire concert here:

La campanella (meaning "The Little Bell") is the nickname given to the third of six Grandes études de Paganini ("Grand Paganini Etudes"), S. 141 (1851), composed by Franz Liszt. This piece is a revision of an earlier version from 1838, the Études d'exécution transcendente d'après Paganini, S. 140. Its melody comes from the final movement of Niccolò Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor, where the tune was reinforced by a little handbell.

MUSIC: Ravel's "A Boat on the Ocean"

REMINISCING

More music from the film
Call Me by Your Name
This music perfectly captures
the feeling of dreamy memories

Miroirs (French for "Mirrors") is a five-movement suite for solo piano written by French composer Maurice Ravel between 1904 and 1905. First performed by Ricardo Viñes in 1906, Miroirs contains five movements, each dedicated to a fellow member of the French avant-garde artist group Les Apaches. Les Apaches (or Société des Apaches) was a group of musicians, writers and artists which formed around 1900 in Paris, France. Members of the group included:

Édouard Bénédictus, painter, composer and scientist
Claude Debussy, composer and pianist
Michel-Dimitri Calvocoressi, writer and music critic
Maurice Delage, composer
Manuel de Falla, composer
Léon-Paul Fargue, poet
Lucien Garban, publisher and transcriber
Pierre Haour
Désiré-Émile Inghelbrecht, conductor
Tristan Klingsor, poet, painter, art theorist
Maurice Ravel, composer
Gomez de Riquet (an imaginary member)
Florent Schmitt, composer
Paul Sordes, painter
Igor Stravinsky, composer
Georges Mouveau , decorator
Ricardo Viñes, pianist

Movement III:
"Une barque sur l'océan" (in English "A Boat on the Ocean") was written for the French painter and set designer Paul Sordes. This piece recounts a boat as it sails upon the waves of the ocean. Arpeggiated sections and sweeping melodies imitate the flow of ocean currents. It is the longest piece of the set, and the second-most technically difficult.

MUSIC: "Blackbird" by Joey Alexander

INCREDIBLE

Amazing someone so young
Can perform so well on the piano
And to be able to just be Jazz
Play Jazz, Compose Jazz
Joey must have been born
With his soul steeped in Jazz
Incredible composer and performer for any age

Remember the Mr. Mister song, Broken Wings, that I posted on Tuesday. In that post, I mentioned that The Beatles also used the line, "take these broken wings and learn to fly" in their song, Blackbird. In this video, Joey Alexander takes The Beatles song and makes it his own by performing his Jazz interpretation of the song.

"I first performed "Blackbird" in 2014 (age 11), but I didn’t have a chance to record it until 2017. When I hear “Blackbird” and especially when I play it, I feel a sense of freedom, hope and thankfulness." - Joey Alexander

MUSIC: BACH - BERNSTEIN - GOULD "Keyboard Concerto No. 1 in D minor"

GLORIOUS!!!

Notes from YouTube:

"This clip is absolutely sensational: as education, composition and in performance.

Glenn Gould was 28 years old here.

For the impatient, Gould's performance begins at 5:08, but I strongly encourage you to watch Leonard Bernstein's fascinating introduction.

This film originally aired in 1960 on CBS Television as part of its "Ford Presents" series.

The entire film in high quality (of which this clip is a small part) was painstakingly hunted down by YouTuber erp65 and his friends. It can be found here, and I urge you, I really DO urge you, to see it in its entirety":
