AOM TV: WHO AM I? by Alan Watts

"It is absolutely absurd to say
We came into this world.
We didn't.
We came out of it." ~Alan Watts

"Jesus Christ's Purpose On Earth" by Alan Watts

Alan Watts
"Jesus Christ's Purpose On Earth"

I will revisit this talk from time to time
Because Alan has given me lots of food for thought
Food for contemplation
There are some things he said
That resonated in my heart as true
There are other things he said
That I will need to contemplate
And a few I currently disagree with.

I think overall that this is an excellent talk
Because he got me thinking
And that is a very good thing
Whether I believe every point  he made as true or not
It brought up questions
That I would like to find the answers

One thing he touched on
That I thought was interesting
Was when he spoke of those who have
Wrongly interpreted the message of Jesus
And how they could use their view
To turn our nation into a fascist nation
Here's the quote:
"(22:40) "It is principally through
White Racist Christians
that we have the threat
of Fascism in this country."

I think Alan's main message is
That Jesus's purpose on earth -
The good news Jesus brought to us -
Is the awakening to the awareness
That we are all divine sons and daughters of God

I suggest not to immediately accept
All that Alan says as the gospel truth
But also don't close your mind to what he has to say
Just open your mind to listen
And see what things that he says
Resonates as truth in your heart

This video is around 30 minutes long
But I think worth our time to hear

Accepting Our Shadow: Alan Watts on Carl Jung

One of my reasons for blogging The Morning Dew is to help inspire others to take a more active role in adding positive energy and Love into the world through helping others. The first step in loving others is to love ourselves first. The more love we have for ourselves, the more love we have to share with others. Today's Meditations relates to this by helping us understand the importance of ACCEPTING ourselves as we are - warts, farts, and all.

I post this to get us thinking outside of our safe comfy boxes. It is not an easy thing for me to accept this view of myself, but something inside me tells me it is true:

All the very best
and all the very worst of humanity
resides within each of us.

Only by accepting our 'shadow or darkness' can we learn to fully accept ourselves and fully integrate ourselves in wholeness. It does not mean we act upon our 'dark' thoughts, feelings, impulses. It means that we accept ourselves warts and all. When we can fully accept our WHOLE self, then we can learn to accept, understand, and be compassionate with ourselves and others. Rather than judging and condemning ourselves and others because of our flaws, we accept them and see them as a natural part of our whole being - parts that have in their own way contributed in positive ways. As stated by Alan Watts in the quote below, "The manure is contributive to the perfume of the rose".

"The Recognition of the fact that behind the social role that you assume; behind all your pretensions to being either a good citizen or a fine scholar or a great scientist or a leading politician or a physician or whatever you happen to be - that behind this facade - there is a certain element of the unreconstructed bum. Not as something to be condemned and wailed over, but as something to be recognized as contributive to one's greatness and to one's positive aspect; in the same way that manure is contributive to the perfume of the rose."

"We cannot change anything
until we accept it.
Condemnation does not liberate,
it oppresses."

“Only he
who has accepted himself completely
possesses  ‘unprejudiced objectivity,’
that ingredient without which
he will be unable to help others
nor even himself.

Understanding its work in bringing forth
The fragrance of the roses within our lives

AOM TV: "Your Thoughts" by Alan Watts

"Your Thoughts"  by Alan Watts

Alan Watts reflects on how modern "civilized" humans
have been cut off from direct connection with Nature
(and reality)
because of the endless chatter of our thinking minds...

"A person who thinks all the time
has nothing to think about
except thoughts.
So, he loses touch with reality,
and lives in a world of illusions."

AOM TV: "Beautiful" by Alan Watts

through which the whole cosmos looks out...
Only the game we're playing is not to know this."
