Radio KAOM: Rossini/Solti/Chicago "Semiramide Overture"

EXQUISITELY THRILLING SOLTI!!!!!!!!!!!

A Rossini Overture!
Same guy who wrote the Lone Ranger theme : )

This performance is so tight and precise
Starts out slow and builds to an exciting celebration

Artistically and emotionally moving and exciting
I grew up on Solti's conducting
He was one of the world's greatest conductors
Sir Geoge Solti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Perhaps one of symphonic music's greatest
Conductor / Orchestra collaborations in history
They were exquisite
If you find recordings of them together
You cannot go wrong in purchasing those recordings
That brass section was one of the world's finest of that time

Enjoy the great opening chorale of the French horns, song of the oboes, the flight of the piccolo and woodwinds, the Pizzicato (plucking) of the strings - so together (tight), and the trombone's bombast WOOF! Notice how perfectly they strike and release those loud full orchestra chords. This is a supremely glorious performance

from the one who uploaded this video:
"Rossini's Semiramide played by the Chicago Symphony under the baton of Sir Georg Solti during the mid '70s. This comes from an amazing 4 DVD set called Solti - The Maestro - go out and buy it if you love the Chicago Symphony and Solti."

Music from My Childhood: Solti Conducts "Poet and Peasant Overture" by Franz von Suppé

 Continuing the series
Music of my Childhood

I guess when I was around 2-years-old
Maybe before
My mother bought a multi-album box set of classical music
The Reader's Digest
Festival of Light Classical Music
This box set and that Philco stereo record player
Became the fertile soil from which
My life as a musician and music lover grew
Ah! The JOY - Exuberance - The Beauty - The Passion - The Power
Ah! The Love of my Life
M  U  S  I  C
It was the music from this box set
That opened a whole universe of music to me
A universe I am still passionately exploring and sharing

Now
When I was really young
I had my favorites in that set - like
The Lone Ranger by Rossini
(They later used it in some opera -
William Tell Overture - William Told You So -
Something like that)
:  )

Since we all know the William Tell Overture by heart
I decided to choose another piece
From that Reader's Digest box set
But the William Tell was my first favorite

There are so many to choose from -
The 1812 Overture - Marche Slav - Hungarian Rhapsody #2
Lohengrin Prelude to Act 3 - A Night On The Bare Mountain
Light Cavalry Overture - Liebestraum No. 3 In A-Flat
Siegfried's Rhine Journey - Tales From The Vienna Woods Waltz
And so many more

Here's one that you may not know by name
But about half way through you'll say
OH YEAH! I've heard that before
(like me - probably from cartoons)

Today's selection from that box set is
"Poet and Peasant Overture"
by Franz von Suppé

Here's my intro to it:

YEEEEEEE-OW!!!!!
What an F'N Awesome Finish
Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get your drinking straw out
And ready to conduct your ass off
Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just finished listening to this
And my heart is still racing
It starts out very majestic from the brass
BUT WAIT
Everyone stopped playing but the Cello player
What the hell is he doing????????
He's like taking over
The orchestra follows him
He plays a slow section
That sounds like a slow, emotional version of
"I've Been Working on the Railroad"
It plays until the 3 minute 35 second mark
Then
Excitement begins to build and build
But WAIT
Now there's a lovely beer drinking waltz
Then the music takes off again and
Finishes like a house on fire
WHEW!!!!!!
