YOU UP!!!
When I hear this music
I feel so very fortunate
to have lived to hear
and appreciate this music.
The story of this film is fictional. It's about a young woman who takes the job of copying Beethoven's music for the orchestra. In this scene from the film she is chosen to help Beethoven conduct the 9th Symphony due to his deafness. That's why you she her on the floor conducting him. It's nice for dramatic effect, but in reality Beethoven was on stage in front of the conductor's stand "conducting". The musicians were actually following the hands of Louis Duport who was on the conductor's stand conducting. At the end of the symphony, Beethoven did have to be turned around to see the adulation of the audience who witnessed the premiere of his 9th Symphony. It was said that tears were flowing from a most appreciative crowd. I believe it.
What I really like about this movie scene, besides the music, is that it makes me think of how amazingly awesome it would be if I could go back in time to witness the premiere of Beethoven's Ninth. WOW!!!!!
