Radio KAOM: Tchaikovsky "Symphony #5 Movement 2"

Tchaikovsky
"Symphony #5 Movement 2"
Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra
conducted by
Franz Welser-Möst

This movement joins Horny for French Horns Week
Because it opens with a very beautiful horn solo
Not sure why, but this movement was divided into two parts
So there are two videos to hear the entire movement.
Luckily it does divide at the best possible place

PART 2
Here is the exciting conclusion to the 2nd Movement

Ballet: Excerpts from "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky

Gorgeously Moving

Brief synopsis:
Princess Odette and her companions have been turned into swans by the evil magician Baron von Rothbart.  At night they change back to human form. Prince Siegfried meets Odette at the Lake and is captivated by her. She explains he must swear his undying love to break the spell. He is tricked by BvR and the spell is now permanent. In the final act they decide to die together... At the very end, you will see the couple reunited in death as they appear in the sun.

The finale is thrilling

MUSIC & DANCE: Tchaikovsky's "Arabian Dance"

Amazing Flawless Perfection

I woke up this morning
With a short clarinet duet part playing in my head
Buuuuuuuuuuuuh bum Buuuuuuuuuh bum
I couldn't remember what it was
I knew is was Tchaikovsky
And was pretty sure it was from
The Nutcracker Suite - or maybe Swan Lake
I searched and found it and then
Found these 'phabulous' dancers
Dancing to the music
So here it is!

MUSIC: Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique" Mvt. I"

DEVASTATINGLY BEAUTIFUL
BEAUTIFULLY DEVASTATING

The 1st movement from
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B Minor "Pathétique"
(Runtime: 19 minutes 42 seconds)

I searched for this piece
Because the beautiful melody from movement one
Was Flowing through my mind today
That theme can be heard at the 4:40 minute mark
If you are a classic movie buff
You've probably have heard it before

Around the 12:00 minute mark
Starts a most utterly emotionally devastating section
I can hear similarities to
Mahler and Beethoven during the beginning here
It grows and grows and then crashes into utter devastation

Starting around the 14:00 minute mark
The brass is amazing - truly superb
So powerful - so clean and clear
Set with the tension of the high strings
A powerfully super-charged emotional section

Around 15:20 I am left in ruin
Completely wiped out
Then the memory of hope returns
Builds into a most beautiful refrain of
The melody from the 4:40 section

Whew! This wore me out with tears bathing my heart
And yet I was compelled to listen to it several more times

I am very impressed with this performance
You really need to set aside 20 minutes
To devote yourself to Truly Listening to this music
I highly recommend listening to this
With headphones on and
With . Your . Eyes . Closed
Having nothing to distract you along this musical journey

Of his 6th Symphony,
In 1893, Tchaikovsky mentions an entirely new symphonic work in a letter to his brother:

"I am now wholly occupied with the new work ... and it is hard for me to tear myself away from it. I believe it comes into being as the best of my works. I must finish it as soon as possible, for I have to wind up a lot of affairs and I must soon go to London. I told you that I had completed a Symphony which suddenly displeased me, and I tore it up. Now I have composed a new symphony which I certainly shall not tear up."
