Tenderly Beautiful
From the ancient story,
The Odyssey,
Told by the Greeks
After the Trojan War
A man set sail for home
But was frustrated by the gods
Odysseus, husband of Penelope
And father of Telemachus
Ventured for ten years at sea
Before finally arriving home.
Through those long years
Yearning and pining
For her beloved husband
Penelope waited
Eyes ever searching the wine dark sea
Waiting and calling
For Odysseus to return
And here
Beautifully captured and expressed
Is Penelope's Song
By Loreena McKennitt
"Penelope's Song" Lyrics
Loreena McKennitt
"Now that the time has come
Soon gone is the day
There upon some distant shore
You'll hear me say
Long as the day in the summer time
Deep as the wine dark sea
I'll keep your heart with mine.
Till you come to me.
There like a bird I'd fly
High through the air
Reaching for the sun's full rays
Only to find you there
And in the night when our dreams are still
Or when the wind calls free
I'll keep your heart with mine
Till you come to me
Now that the time has come
Soon gone is the day
There upon some distant shore
You'll hear me say
Long as the day in the summer time
Deep as the wine dark sea
I'll keep your heart with mine.
Till you come to me"
