A Lovely Little Ditty About Diddling
And the story with a very wise dad
Growing up, did you have a special fantasy someone
Who came into your mind when you masturbated?
Do you still have a fantasy someone
Who you think of often as you stroke?
I did and I still do
All perfectly normal and natural
Remember the quote from Betty Dobson
Talking about that fantasy lover in today's Meditations
Well
That's what this song is all about
"Lily" in this song refers to Lily Langtry
Who was the Marilyn Monroe and Farrah Faucet of the late 1800's
We know this song is about her because
It states that Lily died in 1929
Which is the year Lily Langtry died
About Lily Langtry:
(October 13, 1853 – February 12, 1929)
"Lily's looks and personality attracted interest, commentary, and invitations from artists and society hostesses, and she was celebrated as a young woman of great beauty and charm." (Wikipedia) A mistress of powerful men, a film and stage star, a movie producer and the first woman to endorse a commercial product when she advertised Pears Soap. She lived a most extraordinary life.
About the Song:
"Pictures of Lily" is a single by the British rock band The Who, written by guitarist and primary songwriter Pete Townshend. It was released in 1967 as a single, and made the top five in the UK. Mark Wilkerson quotes Townshend as writing that the song is "Merely a ditty about Masturbation and the importance of it to a young man. However, the song does not mention masturbation explicitly." (Wikipedia)
My Thoughts:
While I can see how others might scoff at or belittle this song - (Haaa! He's singin' about jerking off") - this song paints a most beautiful time in a young man's life. We've all been there - we've all had our fantasy "lovers" - the burning desire to love and cherish the lover of our dreams. It's very personal - very intimate and very special. It is such a beautifully tender experience. How marvelous to experience the blossoming of our sexual, spiritual, emotional yearning for our fantasy lovers.

Lyrics to
"Pictures of Lily"
written by Pete Townshend
"I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad
He said, "Son now here's some little something"
And stuck them on my wall
And now my nights ain't quite so lonely
In fact I, I don't feel bad at all
Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night
Pictures of Lily solved my childhood problems
Pictures of Lily helped me feel alright
Pictures of Lily
Lily, oh Lily
Lily, oh Lily
Pictures of Lily
And then one day things weren't quite so fine
I fell in love with Lily
I asked my dad where Lily I could find
He said, "Son, now don't be silly"
"She's been dead since 1929"
Oh, how I cried that night
If only I'd been born in Lily's time
It would have been alright
Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night
For me and Lily are together in my dreams
And I ask you, "Hey mister, have you ever seen"
"Pictures of Lily?""
