NOTE:
I think this article still needs some work
I tend to repeat myself
But I do so for emphasis, but still it needs more editing
But if I waited until I felt it was perfect
I'd never publish it - so I'm just going to go with it
And hope it makes sense and is beneficial to you
Can Anything This Good Last Forever?
A Friend asked me this question the other day. The following is an extended version of what I wrote to him. I thought it was worth sharing with you.
You ask a good question, "Can anything this good last forever?" I think the answer is probably No, because nothing lasts forever. Everything is fluid - flowing and impermanent. Scary thought!!!! But once we are aware and realize this and come to terms with the fact that nothing lasts forever, then we are free to let go and go with the flow. Understanding and accepting impermanence, allows us to enjoy and savor every single moment without fear nagging us about whether things last or not. We are HERE, NOW, savoring this PRESENT MOMENT - sucking deep the ecstasy of life right NOW! Don't waste a second of it worrying if the good times last.
"I wanted to live deliberately.
I wanted to live deep
and suck out all the marrow of life...
~Henry David Thoreau
I don't know if the good times will last, but I'm okay with that. What we have here and now is the only thing that matters. What we have now is the most beautiful beauty - the most joyful joy - so there is no time for questions, worries, or fears. Trust in this present moment for THAT - these special moments of Beauty, of Joy, of Peace, of Love, of Bliss, of Gratitude, of Pleasure, of Fun, of Ecstasy, the moments that have moved our hearts and souls - These Feelings are everlasting.
If things go off the rails tomorrow, we'd be sad and hurt. But the wonderful feelings we've experienced will always be with us forever. How truly fortunate we are to have experienced these moments. I call these moments, "Life's String of Peals". It doesn't matter how long these moments last - because once we've experienced their bliss, we will forever carry that bliss with us from here throughout eternity. Be grateful for these moments and fully savor them, my Friend.
"These experiences that ...make us feel completely alive. Where every sense is heightened, every emotion is magnified, our everyday reality is shattered and we are flying into the heavens. It may only last a moment, an hour, an afternoon. But that doesn't diminish its value. Because we are left with memories that we treasure for the rest of our lives." ~Unknown
I used to look back on some of the good times of my life and fixate on the hurt and sadness of their ending. Like my first Love. We were best of Friends. One summer night, skinny dipping in the pool, I told him how I felt about him. He reached over and held my hand. The electricity of that moment shot through me so brilliantly that I almost came.(I think I did a little) We made love almost every night that summer. The feelings I experienced that summer were indescribable. Such ecstasy I had never felt before. At the end of that summer, he decided it was time to end it and move on. I was so hurt. So hurt and broken.
I know breakups like that happen all the time. But still. For years after, when that summer came to mind, I couldn't see anything but how that summer ended. I got to the point where I couldn't listen to the music from that summer because it reminded me of the pain of loss I felt. But then I realized that I was missing the point. It wasn't about how it ended. I should remember and embrace the amazing feelings I experienced during that summer. Wow! That was an amazing orgasmic summer - the Joy, the Love, the Passion I felt - I learned it was worth the pain of loss to have felt all the wonderful things I felt that summer. Today I look back and I just grin real big, bursting with joy as I remember those feelings.
So it ended. I was hurt, But eventually I got back into the flow of life and went on to experience other loves, more joys, more passions, more fun - so nothing is for sure - just enjoy where you are right now and keep going with the flow.

I guess I'm really lucky to have had such good times that I felt some sadness when they ended. This brings to mind one of my favorite quotes:
“Don't cry because it's over,
smile because it happened.”
~attributed to Dr. Seuss
So let us not waste any time
worrying if the good times will last or not
worrying if the good times will last or not
Let us focus on fully savoring this moment
